Jesus asked Peter, if he loved “agapao” Him. but Peter answered “Yes Lord, you know that I love “phileo” you (John 21:15)
Love is the foundational principle and the very essence of God. It is through His great love that He chose to sacrifice His Son so that we may have life, and that more abundantly. As we become a learner of the doctrine and lifestyle of Jesus, the concept of love becomes paramount for the disciple. However, we use the term “I Love You” in so many different ways that the true meaning and intent often becomes distorted. In this series we will explore many aspects of this thing we call “Love”. From the Hebrew and Greek definitions, love in Creation, sacrificial love and it’s characteristics. I think the Jesus provides the a very simplistic, but profound summation of Love in Mark 12:28-31:
And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
